What’s Wrong with America?

Part Two

Romans 1:7, 16-32 NLT

7 I am writing to all of you in Rome who are loved by God and are called to be his own holy people. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

16For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. 17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.

18But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness. 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. 26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. 28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy. 32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

Our country has never been perfect. Debating policies, peaceful protests, political wranglings, righting wrongs, fighting for change has always been part of our DNA since our birth on July 4, 1776; 244 years ago.

  • We’ve promoted acts and atrocities that never should have been.
  • We’ve participated in injustices that caused great harm that we still reap the painful consequences.

Yet, we seemed to at least, try to move forward – baby steps at times. There was the resolve to do so. Today, many of us wonder, will it ever happen?

Something seems to be different about today’s America.

  • We struggle to find our footing.
  • We are grappling to establish our identity once again.
  • America, once again, is at a crossroads.

We need to rebuild our altars!

  • We need to rebuild our family altars.
  • We need to rebuild our church altars.
  • We need to rebuild our national altars.

Until we – those of us who claim Jesus as Lord – until we are willing to pick up the Bible and read it again and practice its truths… Until we are willing to go back into our prayer closets and tarry until our hearts align with His heart, then things that are will continue to worsen and what we dreamed for our future will not be.

A world in crisis needs a church!

  • We need a church that speaks truth.
  • We need a church that isn’t afraid to address issues.
  • We need a church that is more concerned about your spiritual well-being than your success on Wall Street.
  • We need a church that stands up – preachers who are not intimidated and are not afraid – to stand up in this spiritual war we’re in and boldly declare, “Thus saith the Lord!”

Danger signs of the Progressive Christianity movement.

A descending view of the Bible

A greater emphasis on feelings over facts

            Historic times are redefined

“Tolerance is the last virtue of a depraved society. When you have an immoral society that has blatantly, proudly violated all the commandments of God, there is one last virtue they insist upon: tolerance for their immorality.” – Dr. D. James Kennedy

The reason we have the moral and corrupt crisis in America today is we have forsaken the sacred truths of God’s Word.

“The reason we have 17,000 pages in our law books is because we cannot follow 10 lines in a tablet made of stone.” – Ravi Zacharias

The final danger sign is perhaps the most critical.

The very heart of the message of hope and salvation shifts from sin and    redemption to social justice.

Isaiah 58:6-7 NLT

“No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people.

7 Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

The hope of the church, the future of our country, rests in the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” (Romans 1:17)

No matter what the progressives say or the deconstruction of our faith that occurs, the answer to the age-old question remains the same:

What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

O precious is that flow,

That makes me white as snow.

No other fount I know.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

We, the church, are the last bastion of truth. We cannot fail. The cost is too great. The stakes too high.

A generation waits to hear the truth. What we tell them now will determine the future of the church and the eternal destruction of the family.

Hold on to the truth and give away your faith.
