Father’s Day

What Good Can Come from a Storm?

Matthew 14:22-23 NLT

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. 23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.

24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. 25 About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”

29 “Yes, come,” Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Jesus sent them out in the boat. They were out there, “in His will,” at His direction.

They saw certain danger – perhaps death.

Jesus saw an opportunity to reveal something about Himself – an opportunity for them to see another characteristic of God.

What they thought was their demise, Jesus just wanted to show them something else – something powerful – about Himself they did not know.

Vs. 33 NLT

Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Perspective is everything.

God is always at work in our lives, using every storm to reveal to us something else wonderful about Him.

I learned God can pick up a car and set it back down.

I learned God can protect.

I learned the power of prayer.

I learned God places people in our lives when we need them.

I learned that the Holy Spirit will provide comfort that is inexplicable.

The end game is worship.

Your Love Never Fails

–  Chris McClarney and Anthony Skinner

Verse 1

Nothing can separate

Even if I ran away

Your love never fails

I know I still make mistakes but

You have new mercies for me ev’ryday

Your love never fails

Chorus

(And) You stay the same through the ages

Your love never changes

There may be pain in the night

But joy comes in the morning

And when the oceans rage

I don’t have to be afraid

Because I know that You love me

(Your love never fails)

Verse 2

The wind is strong and the water’s deep

But I’m not alone here in these open seas

Your love never fails

The chasm is far too wide

I never thought I’d reach the other side

Your love never fails

You make all things

Work together for my good

You make all things

Work together for my good

Amazing Grace (Hymn)

  • Craig Alea

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like me!

I once was lost, but now am found;

Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

And grace my fears relieved;

How precious did that grace appear

The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares,

I have already come;

’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,

And grace will lead me home.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise

Than when we’d first begun.
